Then the Amorites forced the sons of Dan [back] into the hill country, for they would not allow them to come down into the valley;

And the Amorrhite straitened the children of Dan in the mountain, and gave them not place to go down to the plain:
The Amorites forced the tribe of Dan to live in the hill country. They had to stay in the hills because the Amorites would not let them come down to live in the valleys.
