But what went ye out to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, they that wear soft clothing are in kings’ houses.

What did you go out to see? A man dressed in soft clothing [entirely unsuited for the harsh desert]? Those who wear soft clothing are in the palaces of kings!
What did you go out to see then? A man clothed in soft garments? Behold, those who wear soft clothing are in the houses of kings.
But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? behold, they that wear soft clothing are in kings’ houses.
What then did you go out to see? A man dressed in soft clothes? See, those who wear soft clothes are in royal palaces.
What did you go out to see? A man dressed up in refined clothes? Look, those who wear refined clothes are in royal palaces.
No? then what did you go out to see? Someone who was well dressed? Well-dressed people live in kings’ palaces.
What kind of man did you go out to see? Was he someone dressed in fine clothes? People who dress like that live in the king's palace.
But what went ye out to see? a man clothed in delicate raiment? behold, those who wear delicate things are in the houses of kings.
But what did you go out to see? A man having been dressed in soft garments? Behold— the ones wearing the soft garments are in the houses of kings!
But what went you out to see? a man clothed in soft garments? Behold they that are clothed in soft garments, are in the houses of kings.
Really, what did you expect to see? Someone dressed in fine clothes? Of course not. People who wear fine clothes are all in kings’ palaces.
Did you go to see a man who was wearing expensive clothes? No! People like that do not live in the wilderness. They live in kings' great houses.
What did you go out to see? A man dressed in soft clothing? No, those who wear soft clothing are in kings’ houses.
What then did you go out to see? A man dressed in soft clothing? Behold, those who wear soft clothing are in kings' houses.
What then did you go out to see? A man dressed in soft clothing? Behold, those who wear soft clothing are in kings' houses.
What did you go out to see? A man dressed in ·fine [expensive] clothes? No, those who wear ·fine [expensive; L soft] clothes ·live [are found] in kings’ ·palaces [houses].
But what went ye out to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? Behold they that wear soft clothing, are in kings’ houses.
Really, what did you go to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? Those who wear fine clothes are in royal palaces.
What did you go out to see? A man dressed up in fancy clothes? People who dress like that live in palaces!
What then did you go out to see? A man dressed in soft clothes? Look, those who wear soft clothes are in kings’ palaces.
Really, what did you go out to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? No. Those people who wear fine clothes live in kings’ palaces.
Really, what did you go out to see? A man dressed in fancy clothes? See, those who wear fancy clothes live in kings’ houses.
As John’s disciples were going away Jesus began talking to the crowd about John: “What did you go out into the desert to look at? A reed waving in the breeze? No? Then what was it you went out to see?—a man dressed in fine clothes? But the men who wear fine clothes live in the courts of kings! But what did you really go to see—a prophet? Yes, I tell you, a prophet and far more than a prophet! This is the man of whom the scripture says—‘Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way before you’.

When John’s disciples left to report, Jesus started talking to the crowd about John. “What did you expect when you went out to see him in the wild? A weekend camper? Hardly. What then? A sheik in silk pajamas? Not in the wilderness, not by a long shot. What then? A prophet? That’s right, a prophet! Probably the best prophet you’ll ever hear. He is the prophet that Malachi announced when he wrote, ‘I’m sending my prophet ahead of you, to make the road smooth for you.’
If not, what did you go out to see? A man dressed in soft clothing? Indeed, those who wear soft clothing are in kings’ houses.
What then did you go out to see? A man dressed in soft clothing? Behold, those who wear · soft clothing are in the courts of kings.
Really, what did you go to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? Those who wear fine clothes are in royal palaces.
Then what did you go out to see? Someone dressed in fine clothing? Those who wear fine clothing are in royal palaces.

Then what did you go out to see? Someone robed in fine clothing? Those who wear fine clothing are found in royal palaces.
What did you go out to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? No, those who wear fine clothes live in kings’ palaces.
What did you go out to see? A man dressed in soft clothing? Look, those who wear soft clothing are in the palaces of kings!
If not, what did you go out to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? No. People who wear fine clothes are in kings’ palaces.
If not, what did you go out to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? No, those who wear fine clothes are in kings’ palaces.
If not, what did you go out to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? No, those who wear fine clothes are in kings’ palaces.

Or were you expecting to see a man dressed in expensive clothes? No, people with expensive clothes live in palaces.
Or what did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, they that wear soft clothing are in kings' houses.
What then did you go out to see? Someone dressed in soft robes? Look, those who wear soft robes are in royal palaces.

No? Then, what were you expecting to see? Someone dressed in silks and satins? If you want to see people like that you’d have to go to somebody’s royal palace.
What did you go out to see? Someone shtats (imposing, impressive) in appearance, attired in soft raiment? Hinei, the ones wearing soft raiment are in houses of melachim (kings).
“But what did you go out to see - a man wearing soft clothes? Behold, those who wear soft clothes are in kings’ houses.
Why then did you go out? To see a man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, those who wear soft raiment are in kings’ houses.
Why then did you go out? To see a man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, those who wear soft raiment are in kings’ houses.
No? So what did you go out to see? A man dressed in finery? Look, those who wear finery are in the palaces of kings!
No? Were you expecting to see a man dressed in the finest silks? No, of course not—you find silk in the sitting rooms of palaces and mansions, not in the middle of the wilderness.
But what did you go out to see? A man in soft clothing? Behold, those who wear soft clothing are in kings’ houses.
What did you go out to see? A man wearing fine clothes? People who wear fine clothes live in kings' houses.
Or what thing went ye out to see? a man clothed with soft clothes [But what thing went ye out to see? whether a man clothed with soft clothings]? Lo! they that be clothed with soft clothes be in the houses of kings.
`But what went ye out to see? -- a man clothed in soft garments? lo, those wearing the soft things are in the kings' houses.
