Then came the disciples to Jesus apart and said, “Why could we not cast him out?”

Then the disciples came to Jesus in private and said, “Why couldn’t we throw the demon out?”
Then the talmidim went to him privately and said, “Why couldn’t we drive it out?”
Later the disciples went to Jesus in private and asked him, “Why couldn't we force out the demon?”
Then the disciples, coming to Jesus apart, said [to him], Why were not *we* able to cast him out?
Then the disciples, having come to Jesus privately, said, “For what reason were we not able to cast it out?”
Jesus said to them: Because of your unbelief. For, amen I say to you, if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you shall say to this mountain, Remove from hence hither, and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible to you.
Then the followers came to Jesus alone. They said, “We tried to force the demon out of the boy, but we could not. Why were we not able to make the demon go out?”
When the disciples were alone with Jesus, they asked him, ‘Why could we not make the bad spirit leave the boy?’
Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why were we unable to drive it out?”
Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?”
Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?”
The ·followers [disciples] came to Jesus when he was alone and asked, “Why couldn’t we ·force [drive; cast] the demon out?”
Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?

Later, when they were away from the crowds, the disciples asked Jesus why they hadn’t been able to drive out the demon themselves.

Then the disciples came to Jesus alone. They asked him, `Why could we not drive the bad spirit out?'
Then the disciples came to Jesus privily, and said to him, Why might not we cast him out?
Then the disciples having come to Jesus by himself, said, `Wherefore were we not able to cast him out?'
