Then the Pharisees going, consulted among themselves how to insnare him in his speech.
Then the Pharisees left the place where Jesus was teaching. They made plans to catch him saying something wrong.
After the Pharisees heard this, they thought about what they could do. They wanted to ask Jesus difficult questions. They wanted to make him say something wrong about the Roman ruler.
Then the Pharisees went out and plotted together how to trap him in his words.

Then the Pharisees went off and discussed how they could trap him in argument. Eventually they sent their disciples with some of the Herod-party to say this, “Master, we know that you are an honest man who teaches the way of God faithfully and that you don’t care for human approval. Now tell us—‘is it right to pay taxes to Caesar or not’?”

Then the Pharisees met together to try to think of some way to trap Jesus into saying something for which they could arrest him.
That’s when the Pharisees plotted a way to trap him into saying something damaging. They sent their disciples, with a few of Herod’s followers mixed in, to ask, “Teacher, we know you have integrity, teach the way of God accurately, are indifferent to popular opinion, and don’t pander to your students. So tell us honestly: Is it right to pay taxes to Caesar or not?”
