Matthew 23:19

Ye fools and blind! For which is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifieth the gift?
Ye blind: for which is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifieth the gift?
You [spiritually] blind men, which is more important, the offering, or the altar that sanctifies the offering?
You blind men! Which is greater: the gift, or the altar which makes the gift sacred?
Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifieth the gift?
Blind people! For which is greater, the gift or the altar that sanctifies the gift?
You blind people! Which is greater, the gift or the altar that makes the gift holy?
Blind men! Which is more important? the sacrifice? or the altar which makes the sacrifice holy?
Are you blind? Which is more important, the gift or the altar that makes the gift sacred?
[Fools and] blind ones, for which is greater, the gift, or the altar which sanctifies the gift?
Blind ones! For which is greater, the gift, or the altar sanctifying the gift?
Ye blind: for whether is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifieth the gift?
You are blind! Can’t you see that the altar is greater than any gift on it? It’s the altar that makes the gift holy!
You are people who cannot understand what is true. Think about which of these things is more important. Is it the gifts on the altar? Or is it the altar itself? It is the altar that makes the gifts special.
You blind men! After all, which is greater: the gift or the altar that sanctifies the gift?
You blind men! For which is greater, the gift or the altar that makes the gift sacred?
You blind men! For which is greater, the gift or the altar that makes the gift sacred?
You are blind! Which is greater: the ·gift [offering] or the altar that makes the gift ·holy [sacred; sanctified]?

You blind men! Which is more important, the gift or the altar that makes the gift holy?
“Alas for you, you blind leaders! You say, ‘if anyone swears by the Temple it amounts to nothing, but if he swears by the gold of the Temple he is bound by his oath.’ You blind fools, which is the more important, the gold or the Temple which sanctifies the gold? And you say, ‘If anyone swears by the altar it doesn’t matter, but if he swears by the gift placed on the altar he is bound by his oath.’ Have you no eyes—which is more important, the gift, or the altar which sanctifies the gift? Any man who swears by the altar is swearing by the altar and whatever is offered upon it; and anyone who swears by the Temple is swearing by the Temple and by him who dwells in it; and anyone who swears by Heaven is swearing by the throne of God and by the one who sits upon that throne.
Ye fools and blind, for which one is greater, the gift or the altar that sanctifies the gift?
Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifieth the gift?

Blind! For which is greater, the gift on the altar, or the altar itself that sanctifies the gift?
“You’re hopeless! What arrogant stupidity! You say, ‘If someone makes a promise with his fingers crossed, that’s nothing; but if he swears with his hand on the Bible, that’s serious.’ What ignorance! Does the leather on the Bible carry more weight than the skin on your hands? And what about this piece of trivia: ‘If you shake hands on a promise, that’s nothing; but if you raise your hand that God is your witness, that’s serious’? What ridiculous hairsplitting! What difference does it make whether you shake hands or raise hands? A promise is a promise. What difference does it make if you make your promise inside or outside a house of worship? A promise is a promise. God is present, watching and holding you to account regardless.
