Be merciful unto me, O God, for man would swallow me up; he, fighting daily, oppresseth me.
For the Chief Musician; set to Jonath elem rehokim. A Psalm of David. Michtam; when the Philistines took him in Gath. Be merciful unto me, O God; for man would swallow me up: All the day long he fighting oppresseth me.
To the Chief Musician; set to [the tune of] “Silent Dove Among Those Far Away.” A Mikhtam of David. [A record of memorable thoughts] when the Philistines seized him in Gath. Be gracious to me, O God, for man has trampled on me; All day long the adversary oppresses and torments me.
Be merciful and gracious to me, O God, for man would trample me or devour me; all the day long the adversary oppresses me.

God, have mercy on me because I’m being trampled. All day long the enemy oppresses me.

This is for the music leader, and he should use special music. David wrote this prayer when the Philistines took hold of him in Gath. God, please be kind to me, and help me, because people are fighting me. My enemies are attacking me every day.

Lord, have mercy on me; all day long the enemy troops press in. So many are proud to fight against me; how they long to conquer me.
Take my side, God—I’m getting kicked around, stomped on every day. Not a day goes by but somebody beats me up; They make it their duty to beat me up. When I get really afraid I come to you in trust. I’m proud to praise God; fearless now, I trust in God. What can mere mortals do?
