For we know that the law is spiritual; but I am carnal, sold under sin.

We understand that God's Law is spiritual. But I am weak and human. I am like a slave that has sin as my master.
Certainly we know that the law is spiritual, but I am unspiritual, sold as a slave to sin.

I know that God’s standards in Moses’ Teachings are spiritual, but I have a corrupt nature, sold as a slave to sin.
We know that the Law is spiritual; but I am a mortal, sold as a slave to sin.
For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am made out of flesh, sold into sin’s power.
We know that the law is spiritual. But I am not spiritual. Sin rules me as if I were its slave.
For we know that the Law is spiritual, but I am merely human, sold as a slave to sin.
After all, the Law itself is really concerned with the spiritual—it is I who am carnal, and have sold my soul to sin. In practice, what happens? My own behaviour baffles me. For I find myself not doing what I really want to do but doing what I really loathe. Yet surely if I do things that I really don’t want to do, I am admitting that I really agree with the Law. But it cannot be said that “I” am doing them at all—it must be sin that has made its home in my nature. (And indeed, I know from experience that the carnal side of my being can scarcely be called the home of good!) I often find that I have the will to do good, but not the power. That is, I don’t accomplish the good I set out to do, and the evil I don’t really want to do I find I am always doing. Yet if I do things that I don’t really want to do then it is not, I repeat, “I” who do them, but the sin which has made its home within me.
¶ For we now know that the law is spiritual, but I am carnal, sold unto subjection by sin.
For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.

For we know that the Law is spiritual, but I am fleshly, having been sold into bondage under sin.
For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am fleshly, sold into slavery to sin.
The law is good, then, and the trouble is not there but with me because I am sold into slavery with Sin as my owner.
I can anticipate the response that is coming: “I know that all God’s commands are spiritual, but I’m not. Isn’t this also your experience?” Yes. I’m full of myself—after all, I’ve spent a long time in sin’s prison. What I don’t understand about myself is that I decide one way, but then I act another, doing things I absolutely despise. So if I can’t be trusted to figure out what is best for myself and then do it, it becomes obvious that God’s command is necessary.
We know that the law is spiritual, but I am carnal, sold under sin.

We know that the law is holy. But I am not. I have been sold to be a slave of sin.

We know that the Law is right and good, but I am a person who does what is wrong and bad. I am not my own boss. Sin is my boss.
So the trouble is not with the law, for it is spiritual and good. The trouble is with me, for I am all too human, a slave to sin.
For we know that the law is spiritual. But I am carnal, sold under sin,

We know, you see, that the law is spiritual. I, however, am made of flesh, sold as a slave under sin’s authority.
For we have da’as that the Torah is Ruchanit (Spiritual, of the Ruach Hakodesh); but I am of the basar (fallen humanity) sold under the power of (slave master Chet Kadmon) Chet.
For we know that the Law is spiritual. But I am carnal, sold under sin.

This is what we know: the law comes from the spiritual realm. My problem is that I am of the fallen human realm, owned by sin, which tries to keep me in its service.
For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am fleshly, sold under sin.
We know that the law came from the Holy Spirit. But I am a weak man. I have been sold like a slave to do wrong things.
And we know, that the law is spiritual; but I am fleshly, sold under sin.
