Romans 7:15
For that which I do, I know not. For what I would do, that do I not; but what I hate, that I do.
For that which I do I know not: for not what I would, that do I practise; but what I hate, that I do.
For I do not understand my own actions [I am baffled and bewildered by them]. I do not practice what I want to do, but I am doing the very thing I hate [and yielding to my human nature, my worldliness—my sinful capacity].

For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.

I don’t know what I’m doing, because I don’t do what I want to do. Instead, I do the thing that I hate.
I don’t understand my own behavior — I don’t do what I want to do; instead, I do the very thing I hate!
In fact, I don't understand why I act the way I do. I don't do what I know is right. I do the things I hate.
For that which I do, I do not own: for not what I will, this I do; but what I hate, this I practise.
For I do not understand what I am producing. For I am not practicing this which I am wanting, but I am doing this which I am hating.
For that which I work, I understand not. For I do not that good which I will; but the evil which I hate, that I do.
I don’t understand why I act the way I do. I don’t do the good I want to do, and I do the evil I hate.
I do not understand the things that I do. I do not do the good things that I want to do. Instead, I do the things that I hate to do.
For I do not understand what I am doing, because I do not keep doing what I want. Instead, I do what I hate.

I don’t realize what I’m doing. I don’t do what I want to do. Instead, I do what I hate.

I don’t understand what I am doing. For I don’t practice what I want to do, but instead do what I hate.
After all, the Law itself is really concerned with the spiritual—it is I who am carnal, and have sold my soul to sin. In practice, what happens? My own behaviour baffles me. For I find myself not doing what I really want to do but doing what I really loathe. Yet surely if I do things that I really don’t want to do, I am admitting that I really agree with the Law. But it cannot be said that “I” am doing them at all—it must be sin that has made its home in my nature. (And indeed, I know from experience that the carnal side of my being can scarcely be called the home of good!) I often find that I have the will to do good, but not the power. That is, I don’t accomplish the good I set out to do, and the evil I don’t really want to do I find I am always doing. Yet if I do things that I don’t really want to do then it is not, I repeat, “I” who do them, but the sin which has made its home within me.
For that which I do, I do not understand, and not even the good that I desire is what I do; but what I hate, that is what I do.

I don’t understand myself at all, for I really want to do what is right, but I can’t. I do what I don’t want to—what I hate.
I can anticipate the response that is coming: “I know that all God’s commands are spiritual, but I’m not. Isn’t this also your experience?” Yes. I’m full of myself—after all, I’ve spent a long time in sin’s prison. What I don’t understand about myself is that I decide one way, but then I act another, doing things I absolutely despise. So if I can’t be trusted to figure out what is best for myself and then do it, it becomes obvious that God’s command is necessary.
For what I am doing, I do not understand, for I do not practice what I will to do, but I do the very thing I hate.

Listen, I can’t explain my actions. Here’s why: I am not able to do the things I want; and at the same time, I do the things I despise.

For I understand not that that I work; for I do not the good thing that I will, but I do that evil thing that I hate.
