but a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate,
but given to hospitality, a lover of good, sober-minded, just, holy, self-controlled;
And he must be hospitable [to believers, as well as strangers], a lover of what is good, sensible (upright), fair, devout, self-disciplined [above reproach—whether in public or in private].
But he must be hospitable (loving and a friend to believers, especially to strangers and foreigners); [he must be] a lover of goodness [of good people and good things], sober-minded (sensible, discreet), upright and fair-minded, a devout man and religiously correct, temperate and keeping himself in hand.
But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate;
but hospitable, loving what is good, sensible, righteous, holy, self-controlled,
Instead, they should show hospitality, love what is good, and be reasonable, ethical, godly, and self-controlled.
On the contrary, he must be hospitable, devoted to good, sober-mindedness, uprightness, holiness and self-control.
Instead, they must be friendly to strangers and enjoy doing good things. They must also be sensible, fair, pure, and self-controlled.
but hospitable, a lover of goodness, discreet, just, pious, temperate,
but hospitable, a lover-of-good, sound-minded, just, holy, self-controlled,
But given to hospitality, gentle, sober, just, holy, continent:
An elder must be ready to help people by welcoming them into his home. He must love what is good. He must be wise. He must live right. He must be devoted to God and pleasing to him. And he must be able to control himself.
Instead, he must be happy to have visitors in his home. He must want to do good things. He must be careful in how he lives. He must do what is right. He must want to serve God well. He must control himself well.
Instead, he must be hospitable, loving what is good, self-controlled, upright, devout, and disciplined.
but hospitable, a lover of good, self-controlled, upright, holy, and disciplined.
but hospitable, a lover of good, self-controlled, upright, holy, and disciplined.
Overseers must be ·ready to welcome guests [hospitable], love what is good, be ·wise [self-controlled; sensible], ·live right [upright; just], and be ·holy [devout] and ·self-controlled [disciplined].
But harberous, one that loveth goodness, wise, righteous, holy, temperate,
Instead, he must be hospitable, love what is good, use good judgment, be fair and moral, and have self-control.
He must be hospitable and love what is good. He must be self-controlled, upright, holy, and disciplined.
but hospitable, loving what is good, sensible, righteous, holy, self-controlled,
An overseer must be ready to help others by accepting them into his home. He must love what is good. He must be wise. He must live right. He must be holy. And he must be able to control himself.
Instead, he must be hospitable to strangers, must appreciate what is good, and be sensible, honest, moral, and self-controlled.
I left you in Crete to set right matters which needed attention, and gave you instructions to appoint elders in every city. They were to be men of unquestioned integrity with only one wife, and with children brought up as Christians and not likely to be accused of loose living or law-breaking. To exercise spiritual oversight a man must be of unimpeachable virtue, for he is God’s agent in the affairs of his household. He must not be aggressive or hot-tempered or over-fond of wine; nor must he be violent or greedy for financial gain. On the contrary, he must be hospitable, a genuine lover of what is good, a man who is discreet, fair-minded, holy and self-controlled: a man who takes his stand on the orthodox faith, so that he can by sound teaching both stimulate faith and confute opposition.
but a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, temperate, just, holy, gentle,
But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate;
but a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate;
but hospitable, loving what is good, sensible, righteous, holy, self-controlled,
but hospitable, loving what is good, prudent, just, devout, self-controlled,
They must enjoy having guests in their homes and must love all that is good. They must be sensible men, and fair. They must be clean minded and level headed.
I left you in charge in Crete so you could complete what I left half-done. Appoint leaders in every town according to my instructions. As you select them, ask, “Is this man well-thought-of? Is he committed to his wife? Are his children believers? Do they respect him and stay out of trouble?” It’s important that a church leader, responsible for the affairs in God’s house, be looked up to—not pushy, not short-tempered, not a drunk, not a bully, not money-hungry. He must welcome people, be helpful, wise, fair, reverent, have a good grip on himself, and have a good grip on the Message, knowing how to use the truth to either spur people on in knowledge or stop them in their tracks if they oppose it.
but hospitable, a lover of what is good, self-controlled, just, holy, temperate,

He must like to take people into his home. He must love what is good. He must be able to think well and do all things in the right way. He must live a holy life and be the boss over his own desires.
Rather, he must enjoy having guests in his home, and he must love what is good. He must live wisely and be just. He must live a devout and disciplined life.

He must hold strongly to the true message which he has been taught. Then he will be able to teach other people what is right. And he will be able to answer people who talk against it.
