¹⁹ Now we know that whatever the law says,^(A) it speaks to those who are subject to the law,^[a](B) so that every mouth may be shut and the whole world may become subject to God’s judgment.^[b](C)

²³ For all have sinned^(A) and fall short of the^[a] glory of God;

³² For God has imprisoned all in disobedience^(A) so that he may have mercy on all.

²² But the Scripture imprisoned everything under sin’s power,^[a](A) so that the promise might be given on the basis of faith^(B) in Jesus Christ to those who believe.^(C)
