2 Samuel 12:7-12

⁷Then Nathan said to David, “You are the man! Thus says the Lord God of Israel: ‘I ^(A)anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you from the hand of Saul. ⁸I gave you your master’s house and your master’s wives into your keeping, and gave you the house of Israel and Judah. And if that had been too little, I also would have given you much more! ⁹^(B)Why have you ^(C)despised the commandment of the Lord, to do evil in His sight? ^(D)You have killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword; you have taken his wife to be your wife, and have killed him with the sword of the people of Ammon. ¹⁰Now therefore, ^(E)the sword shall never depart from your house, because you have despised Me, and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.’ ¹¹Thus says the Lord: ‘Behold, I will raise up adversity against you from your own house; and I will ^(F)take your wives before your eyes and give them to your neighbor, and he shall lie with your wives in the sight of this sun. ¹²For you did it secretly, ^(G)but I will do this thing before all Israel, before the sun.’ ”

This is what the Lord, the God of Israel says: ‘^(B)It is I who anointed you as king over Israel, and it is I who rescued you from the hand of Saul. ⁸I also gave you ^(C)your master’s house and put your master’s wives ^[a]into your care, and I gave you the house of Israel and Judah; and if that had been too little, I would have added to you ^[b]many more things like these! ⁹Why ^(D)have you despised the word of the Lord, by doing evil in His sight? ^(E)You have struck and killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, you ^(F)have taken his wife as your wife, and you have slaughtered him with the sword of the sons of Ammon. ¹⁰Now then, ^(G)the sword shall never leave your house, because you have despised Me and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.’ ¹¹This is what the Lord says: ‘Behold, I am going to raise up evil against you from your own household; ^(H)I will even take your wives before your eyes and give them to your companion, and he will sleep with your wives in ^[c]broad daylight. ¹²Indeed, ^(I)you did it secretly, but ^(J)I will do this thing before all Israel, and ^[d]in open daylight.’”

⁷Then Nathan said to David, “You are the man!^(A) This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘I anointed^(B) you^(C) king over Israel, and I delivered you from the hand of Saul. ⁸I gave your master’s house to you,^(D) and your master’s wives into your arms. I gave you all Israel and Judah. And if all this had been too little, I would have given you even more. ⁹Why did you despise^(E) the word of the Lord by doing what is evil in his eyes? You struck down^(F) Uriah^(G) the Hittite with the sword and took his wife to be your own. You killed^(H) him with the sword of the Ammonites. ¹⁰Now, therefore, the sword^(I) will never depart from your house, because you despised me and took the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your own.’

¹¹“This is what the Lord says: ‘Out of your own household^(J) I am going to bring calamity on you.^(K) Before your very eyes I will take your wives and give them to one who is close to you, and he will sleep with your wives in broad daylight.^(L) ¹²You did it in secret,^(M) but I will do this thing in broad daylight^(N) before all Israel.’”
