Deuteronomy 31:16-17

16 The Lord said to Moses, “You are about to rest with your ancestors,(A) and these people will soon prostitute themselves with the foreign gods(B) of the land they are entering. They will abandon me(C) and break the covenant(D) I have made with them. 17 My anger will burn against them on that day;(E) I will abandon them and hide my face from them so that they will become easy prey.(F) Many troubles and afflictions will come to them. On that day they will say, ‘Haven’t these troubles come to us because our God is no longer with us?’

3 King Shalmaneser(A) of Assyria attacked him,(B) and Hoshea became his vassal and paid him tribute. 4 But the king of Assyria caught Hoshea in a conspiracy: He had sent envoys to So king of Egypt(C) and had not paid tribute to the king of Assyria as in previous years.[a] Therefore the king of Assyria arrested him and put him in prison.
