The Altar for Burning Incense^(A)

30 “Make an altar out of acacia wood, for burning incense. ² It is to be square, 18 inches long and 18 inches wide, and it is to be 36 inches high. Its projections at the four corners are to form one piece with it. ³ Cover its top, all four sides, and its projections with pure gold, and put a gold border around it. ⁴ Make two gold carrying rings for it and attach them below the border on two sides to hold the poles with which it is to be carried. ⁵ Make these poles of acacia wood and cover them with gold. ⁶ Put this altar outside the curtain which hangs in front of the Covenant Box. That is the place where I will meet you.

The Covenant Box^(A)

¹⁰ “Make a Box out of acacia wood, 45 inches long, 27 inches wide, and 27 inches high. ¹¹ Cover it with pure gold inside and out and put a gold border all around it. ¹² Make four carrying rings of gold for it and attach them to its four legs, with two rings on each side. ¹³ Make carrying poles of acacia wood and cover them with gold ¹⁴ and put them through the rings on each side of the Box. ¹⁵ The poles are to be left in the rings and must not be taken out. ¹⁶ Then put in the Box the two stone tablets that I will give you, on which the commandments are written.

^33 (A)Moses said to Aaron, “Take a jar, put two quarts of manna in it, and place it in the Lord's presence to be kept for our descendants.”

^8 (A)The next day, when Moses went into the Tent, he saw that Aaron's stick, representing the tribe of Levi, had sprouted. It had budded, blossomed, and produced ripe almonds! ⁹ Moses took all the sticks and showed them to the Israelites. They saw what had happened, and each leader took his own stick back. ¹⁰ The Lord said to Moses, “Put Aaron's stick back in front of the Covenant Box. It is to be kept as a warning to the rebel Israelites that they will die unless their complaining stops.”

¹⁶ Then put in the Box the two stone tablets that I will give you, on which the commandments are written.

³ “So I made a Box of acacia wood and cut two stone tablets like the first ones and took them up the mountain. ⁴ Then the Lord wrote on those tablets the same words that he had written the first time, the Ten Commandments that he gave you when he spoke from the fire on the day you were gathered at the mountain. The Lord gave me the tablets, ⁵ and I turned and went down the mountain. Then, just as the Lord had commanded, I put them in the Box that I had made—and they have been there ever since.”
