8 When the Rabshakeh heard that the king of Assyria had left Lachish,(C) he returned and found him fighting against Libnah.(D) 9 The king had heard this about Tirhakah king of Cush:(E) “He has set out to fight against you.” So when he heard this, he sent messengers to Hezekiah, saying,

New International Version
7 Listen! When he hears a certain report,(A) I will make him want(B) to return to his own country, and there I will have him cut down(C) with the sword.’”
8 When the field commander heard that the king of Assyria had left Lachish,(D) he withdrew and found the king fighting against Libnah.(E)
9 Now Sennacherib(F) received a report(G) that Tirhakah, the king of Cush,[a](H) was marching out to fight against him. When he heard it, he sent messengers to Hezekiah with this word:
