Jerusalem Captured

39 ^[a]Now when Jerusalem was captured ^[b](A)in the ninth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the tenth month, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and all his army came to Jerusalem and laid siege to it; ² in the eleventh year of Zedekiah, in the fourth month, in the ninth day of the month, the city wall was ^(B)breached.

Jeremiah Remains in Judah

40 The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord after ^(A)Nebuzaradan captain of the bodyguard had released him from ^(B)Ramah, when he had taken him bound in ^(C)chains among all the exiles of Jerusalem and Judah who were being exiled to Babylon.

^4 (A)Now it came about in the ninth year of his reign, on the tenth day of the tenth month, that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came, he and all his army, against Jerusalem, camped against it, and built a ^[a](B)bulwark all around ^[b]it. ^5 (C)So the city was under siege until the eleventh year of King Zedekiah. ⁶ On the ninth day of the ^(D)fourth month the ^(E)famine was so severe in the city that there was no food for the people of the land. ⁷ Then the city was ^(F)breached, and all the ^(G)warriors fled and left the city at night by way of the gate between the two walls which was by the king’s garden, though the Chaldeans were ^[c](H)all around the city. And they went by way of the Arabah.

Parable of the Boiling Pot

24 Now the word of the Lord came to me in the ninth year, in the tenth month, on the tenth of the month, saying, ² “Son of man, write the name of the day, this very day. The king of Babylon ^[a]has ^(A)laid siege to Jerusalem this very day.
