Faithless Israel

⁶ Then the Lord said to me in the days of King Josiah, “Have you seen what faithless Israel did? She ^(G)went up on every high hill and under every leafy tree, and she prostituted herself there. ⁷ Yet ^(H)I ^[c]thought, ‘After she has done all these things she will return to Me’; but she did not return, and her ^(I)treacherous sister Judah saw it. ⁸ And I saw that for all the ^[d]adulteries of faithless Israel, I had sent her away and ^(J)given her a certificate of divorce, yet her ^(K)treacherous sister Judah did not fear; but she went and prostituted herself also. ⁹ And because of the thoughtlessness of her prostitution, she ^(L)defiled the land and committed ^[e]adultery with ^(M)stones and trees. ¹⁰ Yet in spite of all this her treacherous sister Judah did not return to Me with all her heart, but rather in ^(N)deception,” declares the Lord.

³⁰ For the sons of Israel and the sons of Judah have been doing only ^(A)evil in My sight since their youth; for the sons of Israel have been only ^(B)provoking Me to anger by the work of their hands,” declares the Lord. ³¹ “Indeed this city has been to Me a ^(C)provocation of My anger and My wrath since the day that they built it, even to this day, so that it should be ^(D)removed from My sight, ³² because of all the evil of the sons of Israel and the sons of Judah which they have done to provoke Me to anger—they, their ^(E)kings, their leaders, their priests, their prophets, the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
