²⁹ The border turned to Ramah and to the fortified city of Tyre; then the border turned to Hosah, and ^[a]it ended at the sea by the region of ^(A)Achzib.

Alliance with King Hiram

5 ^[a](A)Now Hiram king of Tyre sent his servants to Solomon, when he heard that they had anointed him king in place of his father, for ^(B)Hiram had ^[b]always been a friend of David.

²² and all the kings of ^(A)Tyre, all the kings of Sidon and the kings of ^(B)the coastlands which are beyond the sea;

Judgment on Tyre

26 Now in the eleventh year, on the first of the month, the word of the Lord came to me saying, ² “Son of man, because ^(A)Tyre has said concerning Jerusalem, ‘Aha, the ^(B)gateway of the peoples is broken; it has ^[a](C)opened to me. I shall be filled, now that she is laid waste,’ ³ therefore thus says the Lord ^[b]God, ‘Behold, I am against you, O Tyre, and I will bring up ^(D)many nations against you, as the ^(E)sea brings up its waves. ⁴ They will ^(F)destroy the walls of Tyre and break down her towers; and I will scrape her debris from her and make her a bare rock. ⁵ She will be a place for the spreading of nets in the midst of the sea, for I have spoken,’ declares the Lord God, ‘and she will become ^(G)spoil for the nations. ⁶ Also her ^(H)daughters who are ^[c]on the mainland will be slain by the sword, and they will know that I am the Lord.’”

⁷ For thus says the Lord God, “Behold, I will bring upon Tyre from the north Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, ^(I)king of kings, with horses, ^(J)chariots, cavalry and ^[d]a great army. ⁸ He will slay your daughters ^[e]on the mainland with the sword; and he will make ^(K)siege walls against you, cast up a ^(L)ramp against you and raise up a large shield against you. ⁹ The blow of his battering rams he will direct against your walls, and with his ^[f]axes he will break down your towers. ¹⁰ Because of the multitude of his ^(M)horses, the dust raised by them will cover you; your walls will ^(N)shake at the noise of cavalry and ^[g]wagons and chariots when he ^(O)enters your gates as men enter a city that is breached. ¹¹ With the hoofs of his ^(P)horses he will trample all your streets. He will slay your people with the sword; and your strong pillars will ^(Q)come down to the ground. ¹² Also they will make a spoil of your riches and a prey of your ^(R)merchandise, ^(S)break down your walls and destroy your ^(T)pleasant houses, and ^[h]throw your stones and your timbers and your debris ^(U)into the water. ¹³ So I will ^[i]silence the sound of your ^(V)songs, and the sound of your ^(W)harps will be heard no more. ¹⁴ I will make you a bare rock; you will be a place for the spreading of nets. You will be ^(X)built no more, for I the ^(Y)Lord have spoken,” declares the Lord God.

¹⁵ Thus says the Lord God to Tyre, “Shall not the ^(Z)coastlands ^(AA)shake at the sound of your fall when the wounded groan, when the slaughter occurs in your midst? ¹⁶ Then all the princes of the sea will ^(AB)go down from their thrones, remove their robes and strip off their embroidered garments. They will ^(AC)clothe themselves with ^[j]trembling; they will sit on the ground, ^(AD)tremble every moment and be appalled at you. ¹⁷ They will take up a ^(AE)lamentation over you and say to you,

¹⁹ For thus says the Lord God, “When I make you a desolate city, like the cities which are not inhabited, when I ^(AJ)bring up the deep over you and the great waters cover you, ²⁰ then I will bring you down with those who ^(AK)go down to the pit, to the people of old, and I will make you dwell in the ^(AL)lower parts of the earth, like the ancient waste places, with those who go down to the pit, so that you will not ^[m]be inhabited; but I will set ^(AM)glory in the land of the living. ²¹ I will ^[n]bring ^(AN)terrors on you and you will be no more; though you will be sought, ^(AO)you will never be found again,” declares the Lord God.

Lament over Tyre

27 Moreover, the word of the Lord came to me saying, ² “And you, son of man, ^(AP)take up a lamentation over Tyre; ³ and say to Tyre, ^(AQ)who dwells at the ^[o]entrance to the sea, ^(AR)merchant of the peoples to many coastlands, ‘Thus says the Lord ^[p]God,

¹⁰ “^(BB)Persia and ^(BC)Lud and ^(BD)Put were in your army, your men of war. They hung shield and helmet in you; they set forth your splendor. ¹¹ The sons of Arvad and your army were on your walls, all around, and the ^[w]Gammadim were in your towers. They hung their shields on your walls all around; they perfected your beauty.

¹² “Tarshish was your customer because of the abundance of all kinds of wealth; with silver, iron, tin and lead they paid for your wares. ^13 (BE)Javan, ^(BF)Tubal and ^(BG)Meshech, they were your traders; with the ^(BH)lives of men and vessels of bronze they paid for your merchandise. ¹⁴ Those from ^(BI)Beth-togarmah gave horses and war horses and mules for your wares. ¹⁵ The sons of ^(BJ)Dedan were your traders. Many coastlands were ^[x]your market; ^(BK)ivory tusks and ebony they brought as your payment. ^16 (BL)Aram was your customer because of the abundance of your ^[y]goods; they paid for your wares with ^(BM)emeralds, purple, ^(BN)embroidered work, fine linen, coral and rubies. ¹⁷ Judah and the land of Israel, they were your traders; with the wheat of ^(BO)Minnith, ^[z]cakes, honey, oil and balm they paid for your merchandise. ^18 (BP)Damascus was your customer because of the abundance of your ^[aa]goods, because of the abundance of all kinds of wealth, because of the wine of Helbon and white wool. ¹⁹ Vedan and Javan paid for your wares ^[ab]from Uzal; wrought iron, cassia and ^[ac]sweet cane were among your merchandise. ^20 (BQ)Dedan traded with you in saddlecloths for riding. ^21 (BR)Arabia and all the princes of Kedar, they were ^[ad]your customers for ^(BS)lambs, rams and goats; for these they were your customers. ²² The traders of ^(BT)Sheba and Raamah, they traded with you; they paid for your wares with the best of all kinds of ^(BU)spices, and with all kinds of precious stones and gold. ²³ Haran, Canneh, ^(BV)Eden, the traders of Sheba, Asshur and Chilmad traded with you. ²⁴ They traded with you in choice garments, in clothes of ^[ae]blue and embroidered work, and in carpets of many colors and tightly wound cords, which were among your merchandise. ²⁵ The ^(BW)ships of Tarshish were ^[af]the carriers for your merchandise.

⁴ Moreover, what are you to Me, O ^(A)Tyre, Sidon and all the regions of ^(B)Philistia? Are you rendering Me a recompense? But if you do recompense Me, swiftly and speedily I will ^(C)return your recompense on your head. ⁵ Since you have ^(D)taken My silver and My gold, brought My precious ^[a]treasures to your temples, ⁶ and sold the ^(E)sons of Judah and Jerusalem to the ^[b]Greeks in order to remove them far from their territory, ⁷ behold, I am going to ^(F)arouse them from the place where you have sold them, and return your recompense on your head. ⁸ Also I will ^(G)sell your sons and your daughters into the hand of the sons of Judah, and they will sell them to the ^(H)Sabeans, to a distant nation,” for the Lord has spoken.
