The Cure for Anxiety

²⁵ “^(A)For this reason I say to you, ^[a]do not be ^(B)worried about your ^[b]life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is life not more than food, and the body more than clothing?

²⁸ And why are you ^(A)worried about clothing? Notice how the lilies of the field grow; they do not labor nor do they spin thread for cloth, ²⁹ yet I say to you that not even ^(B)Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. ³⁰ But if God so clothes the ^(C)grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? ^(D)You of little faith! ³¹ Do not ^(E)worry then, saying, ‘What are we to eat?’ or ‘What are we to drink?’ or ‘What are we to wear for clothing?’ ³² For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for ^(F)your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. ³³ But ^[a]seek first ^[b]His kingdom and His righteousness, and ^(G)all these things will be ^[c]provided to you.

¹² Now we ^(A)have not received the spirit of ^(B)the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things freely given to us by God.

Do Not Love the World

¹⁵ Do not love ^(A)the world nor the things in the world. ^(B)If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. ¹⁶ For all that is in the world, ^(C)the lust of the flesh and ^(D)the lust of the eyes and ^(E)the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. ^17 (F)The world is passing away and also its lusts; but the one who ^(G)does the will of God continues to live forever.

^2 (A)so as to live ^(B)the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for human lusts, but for the ^(C)will of God. ³ For ^(D)the time already past is sufficient for you to have carried out the desire of the Gentiles, ^[a](E)having pursued a course of indecent behavior, lusts, drunkenness, carousing, drinking parties, and wanton idolatries.

^3 (A)Your adornment must not be merely the external—braiding the hair, wearing gold jewelry, or putting on apparel; ⁴ but it should be ^(B)the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God.

^6 (A)But godliness actually is a means of ^(B)great gain when accompanied by ^(C)contentment. ⁷ For ^(D)we have brought nothing into the world, so we cannot take anything out of it, either. ⁸ If we ^(E)have food and ^[a]covering, with these we shall be content.

¹⁰ for he was looking for ^(A)the city which has ^(B)foundations, ^(C)whose architect and builder is God.
