² “Why do Your disciples break the tradition of the elders? For they ^(A)do not wash their hands when they eat bread.”

⁵ The Pharisees and the scribes *asked Him, “Why do Your disciples not walk according to the ^(A)tradition of the elders, but eat their bread with ^(B)impure hands?”

³⁸ When the Pharisee saw it, he was surprised that He had not first ^[a](A)ceremonially washed before the ^[b]meal.

¹⁴ But Peter said, “By no means, ^(A)Lord, for ^(B)I have never eaten anything ^[a]unholy and unclean.”

²⁸ And he said to them, “You yourselves know how ^(A)unlawful it is for a man who is a Jew to associate with a foreigner or to visit him; and yet ^(B)God has shown me that I should not call any man ^[a]unholy or unclean.

⁸ But I said, ‘By no means, Lord, for nothing ^[a]unholy or unclean has ever entered my mouth.’

¹⁴ I know and am convinced ^[a]in the Lord Jesus that ^(A)nothing is unclean in itself; but to him who ^(B)thinks anything to be unclean, to him it is unclean.

^29 (A)How much severer punishment do you think he will deserve ^(B)who has trampled under foot the Son of God, and has regarded as unclean ^(C)the blood of the covenant ^(D)by which he was sanctified, and has ^(E)insulted the Spirit of grace?

²⁷ and ^(A)nothing unclean, and no one who practices abomination and lying, shall ever come into it, but only those ^[a]whose names are ^(B)written in the Lamb’s book of life.
