Yahweh Will Judge Zion’s Daughters

16 Moreover, Yahweh said, “Because the (A)daughters of Zion are haughty

And walk with outstretched necks and seductive eyes,
And go along with mincing steps
And tinkle the bangles on their feet,
17 Therefore the Lord will smite the skull of the daughters of Zion with scabs,
And Yahweh will make their foreheads bare.”

18 In that day the Lord will remove the beauty of their anklets, headbands, (B)crescent ornaments, 19 dangling earrings, bracelets, veils, 20 (C)headdresses, ankle chains, sashes, perfume boxes, enchanted charms, 21 [a]finger rings, (D)nose rings, 22 festal robes, outer tunics, cloaks, money purses, 23 hand mirrors, undergarments, turbans, and shawls.

24 Now it will be that instead of [b]sweet (E)perfume there will be the smell of rot;

Instead of fine clothes, a (H)donning of sackcloth;
And branding instead of beauty.

26 And her [d](J)gates will lament and mourn,
And deserted she will (K)sit on the ground.

And seven women will take hold of (L)one man in that day, saying, “We will eat our own bread and wear our own clothes, only let us be called by your name; (M)take away our reproach!”

(B)Give ear to my word,
You complacent daughters.
10 Within a year and a few days
You will quake, O complacent daughters;
(C)For the grape harvest is ended,
And the fruit gathering will not come.
11 Tremble, you women who are at ease;
(D)Quake, you complacent daughters;
(E)Strip, undress, and put sackcloth on your waist,
12 (F)Beat your breasts for the desirable fields, for the fruitful vine,
13 (G)For the land of my people in which thorns and briars shall come up,
Indeed, against all the joyful houses and the (H)exultant city.
14 Because (I)the palace has been abandoned, the [a]populated (J)city forsaken.
[b]Hill and watchtower have become (K)caves forever,
A joy for (L)wild donkeys, a pasture for flocks,
15 Until the (M)Spirit is poured out upon us from on high,
And the wilderness becomes a (N)fruitful orchard,
And the fruitful orchard is counted as a forest.
