Psalm 49
For the director of music. Of the Sons of Korah. A psalm.
Hear this, all you peoples; listen, all who live in this world,
-
they will join those who have gone before them, who will never again see the light of life.
-
Our God comes and will not be silent; a fire devours before him, and around him a tempest rages.
-
I bring no charges against you concerning your sacrifices or concerning your burnt offerings, which are ever before me.
-
If I were hungry I would not tell you, for the world is mine, and all that is in it.
-
When you did these things and I kept silent, you thought I was exactly like you. But I now arraign you and set my accusations before you.
-
For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me.

For you have delivered me from death and my feet from stumbling, that I may walk before God in the light of life.

Before your pots can feel the heat of the thorns— whether they be green or dry—the wicked will be swept away.

my God on whom I can rely. God will go before me and will let me gloat over those who slander me.

Say to God, “How awesome are your deeds! So great is your power that your enemies cringe before you.

May God arise, may his enemies be scattered; may his foes flee before him.

May you blow them away like smoke— as wax melts before the fire, may the wicked perish before God.
-
But may the righteous be glad and rejoice before God; may they be happy and joyful.
-
Sing to God, sing in praise of his name, extol him who rides on the clouds; rejoice before him—his name is the Lord.

When you, God, went out before your people, when you marched through the wilderness,
-
the earth shook, the heavens poured down rain, before God, the One of Sinai, before God, the God of Israel.

Summon your power, God; show us your strength, our God, as you have done before.

You know how I am scorned, disgraced and shamed; all my enemies are before you.

May the table set before them become a snare; may it become retribution and a trap.
-
May the desert tribes bow before him and his enemies lick the dust.

I was senseless and ignorant; I was a brute beast before you.

It is you alone who are to be feared. Who can stand before you when you are angry?

Your thunder was heard in the whirlwind, your lightning lit up the world; the earth trembled and quaked.
