  1. Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.
  2. They sent their disciples to him along with the Herodians. “Teacher,” they said, “we know that you are a man of integrity and that you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. You aren’t swayed by others, because you pay no attention to who they are.
  3. Instead he went out and began to talk freely, spreading the news. As a result, Jesus could no longer enter a town openly but stayed outside in lonely places. Yet the people still came to him from everywhere.

  8. Immediately his mouth was opened and his tongue set free, and he began to speak, praising God.
  9. “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free,
  10. When Jesus saw her, he called her forward and said to her, “Woman, you are set free from your infirmity.”
  11. Then should not this woman, a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has kept bound for eighteen long years, be set free on the Sabbath day from what bound her?”
  12. So the spies questioned him: “Teacher, we know that you speak and teach what is right, and that you do not show partiality but teach the way of God in accordance with the truth.
  13. The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
  14. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
  15. He did not fail to confess, but confessed freely, “I am not the Messiah.”
  16. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.
  17. Whoever has accepted it has certified that God is truthful.
  18. Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.
  19. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”
  20. “You have sent to John and he has testified to the truth.
  21. Whoever speaks on their own does so to gain personal glory, but he who seeks the glory of the one who sent him is a man of truth; there is nothing false about him.
  22. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
  23. They answered him, “We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?”
  24. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
  25. As it is, you are looking for a way to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. Abraham did not do such things.
