    The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.
  2. and Jesse the father of David the king. And David was the father of Solomon by the wife of Uriah,
  3. So all the generations from Abraham to David were fourteen generations, and from David to the deportation to Babylon fourteen generations, and from the deportation to Babylon to the Christ fourteen generations.

  5. Jesus Heals Two Blind Men

    And as Jesus passed on from there, two blind men followed him, crying aloud, “Have mercy on us, Son of David.”
  6. He said to them, “Have you not read what David did when he was hungry, and those who were with him:
  7. And all the people were amazed, and said, “Can this be the Son of David?”
  8. And behold, a Canaanite woman from that region came out and was crying, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David; my daughter is severely oppressed by a demon.”
  9. And behold, there were two blind men sitting by the roadside, and when they heard that Jesus was passing by, they cried out, “Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!”
  10. The crowd rebuked them, telling them to be silent, but they cried out all the more, “Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!”
  11. And the crowds that went before him and that followed him were shouting, “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!”
  12. But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying out in the temple, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” they were indignant,
  13. saying, “What do you think about the Christ? Whose son is he?” They said to him, “The son of David.”
  14. He said to them, “How is it then that David, in the Spirit, calls him Lord, saying,
  15. If then David calls him Lord, how is he his son?”
  16. And he said to them, “Have you never read what David did, when he was in need and was hungry, he and those who were with him:
  17. And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”
  18. And many rebuked him, telling him to be silent. But he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”
  19. Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David! Hosanna in the highest!”
  20. Whose Son Is the Christ?

    And as Jesus taught in the temple, he said, “How can the scribes say that the Christ is the son of David?
  21. David himself, in the Holy Spirit, declared, “‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at my right hand, until I put your enemies under your feet.”’
  22. David himself calls him Lord. So how is he his son?” And the great throng heard him gladly.

  32. Whose Son Is the Christ?

    But he said to them, “How can they say that the Christ is David's son?
  33. For David himself says in the Book of Psalms, “‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at my right hand,
  34. David thus calls him Lord, so how is he his son?”
  35. Has not the Scripture said that the Christ comes from the offspring of David, and comes from Bethlehem, the village where David was?”
  36. “Brothers, the Scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spoke beforehand by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus.
  37. For David says concerning him, “‘I saw the Lord always before me, for he is at my right hand that I may not be shaken;
  38. “Brothers, I may say to you with confidence about the patriarch David that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.
  39. For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he himself says, “‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at my right hand,
  40. who through the mouth of our father David, your servant, said by the Holy Spirit, “‘Why did the Gentiles rage, and the peoples plot in vain?
  41. Our fathers in turn brought it in with Joshua when they dispossessed the nations that God drove out before our fathers. So it was until the days of David,
  42. And when he had removed him, he raised up David to be their king, of whom he testified and said, ‘I have found in David the son of Jesse a man after my heart, who will do all my will.’
  43. And as for the fact that he raised him from the dead, no more to return to corruption, he has spoken in this way, “‘I will give you the holy and sure blessings of David.’
  44. For David, after he had served the purpose of God in his own generation, fell asleep and was laid with his fathers and saw corruption,
  45. “‘After this I will return, and I will rebuild the tent of David that has fallen; I will rebuild its ruins, and I will restore it,
  46. concerning his Son, who was descended from David according to the flesh
  47. just as David also speaks of the blessing of the one to whom God counts righteousness apart from works:
  48. And David says, “Let their table become a snare and a trap, a stumbling block and a retribution for them;
  49. Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, the offspring of David, as preached in my gospel,
  50. again he appoints a certain day, “Today,” saying through David so long afterward, in the words already quoted, “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts.”
  51. And what more shall I say? For time would fail me to tell of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, of David and Samuel and the prophets—
  52. To the Church in Philadelphia

    “And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write: ‘The words of the holy one, the true one, who has the key of David, who opens and no one will shut, who shuts and no one opens.
  53. And one of the elders said to me, “Weep no more; behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered, so that he can open the scroll and its seven seals.”
