Psalm 119:145-168

Qoph

145 With my (A)whole heart I cry; answer me, O Lord!
    I will (B)keep your statutes.
146 I call to you; save me,
    that I may observe your testimonies.
147 I rise before (C)dawn and cry for help;
    I (D)hope in your words.
148 My eyes are awake before (E)the watches of the night,
    that I may meditate on your promise.
149 Hear my voice according to your steadfast love;
    O Lord, (F)according to your justice (G)give me life.
150 They draw near who persecute me with evil purpose;
    they are far from your law.
151 But (H)you are near, O Lord,
    and all your commandments are (I)true.
152 Long have I known from your testimonies
    that you have (J)founded them forever.

Resh

153 Look on my (K)affliction and deliver me,
    for (L)I do not forget your law.
154 (M)Plead my cause and redeem me;
    (N)give me life according to your promise!
155 (O)Salvation is far from the wicked,
    (P)for they do not seek your statutes.
156 (Q)Great is your mercy, O Lord;
    (R)give me life according to your rules.
157 (S)Many are my persecutors and my adversaries,
    but I do not (T)swerve from your testimonies.
158 I look at (U)the faithless with (V)disgust,
    because they do not keep your commands.
159 Consider how I (W)love your precepts!
    (X)Give me life according to your steadfast love.
160 (Y)The sum of your word is (Z)truth,
    and every one of your (AA)righteous rules endures forever.

Sin and Shin

161 (AB)Princes persecute me (AC)without cause,
    but my heart (AD)stands in awe of your words.
162 I (AE)rejoice at your word
    like one who (AF)finds great spoil.
163 I hate and abhor falsehood,
    but I love (AG)your law.
164 Seven times a day I praise you
    for your (AH)righteous rules.
165 Great (AI)peace have those who love your law;
    (AJ)nothing can make them stumble.
166 I (AK)hope for your salvation, O Lord,
    and I do your commandments.
167 My soul keeps your testimonies;
    I (AL)love them exceedingly.
168 I keep your precepts and testimonies,
    (AM)for all my ways are before you.

Jeremiah 11:18-23

18 The Lord made it known to me and I knew;
    then you showed me their deeds.
19 But I was (A)like a gentle lamb
    led to the slaughter.
I did not know (B)it was against me
    they devised schemes, saying,
“Let us destroy the tree with its fruit,
    (C)let us cut him off from (D)the land of the living,
    that his name be remembered no more.”
20 But, O Lord of hosts, who judges righteously,
    who (E)tests (F)the heart and the mind,
(G)let me see your vengeance upon them,
    for to you have I committed my cause.

21 Therefore thus says the Lord concerning the men of (H)Anathoth, (I)who seek your life, and say, (J)“Do not prophesy in the name of the Lord, or you will die by our hand”— 22 therefore thus says the Lord of hosts: “Behold, I will punish them. The young men shall die by the sword, their sons and their daughters shall die by famine, 23 and none of them shall be left. For I will bring disaster upon the men of (K)Anathoth, (L)the year of their punishment.”

Matthew 10:16-22

Persecution Will Come

16 (A)“Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be (B)wise as serpents and (C)innocent as doves. 17 Beware of men, for (D)they will deliver you over to courts and flog you (E)in their synagogues, 18 (F)and you will be dragged before governors and kings for my sake, (G)to bear witness before them and the Gentiles. 19 (H)When (I)they deliver you over, (J)do not be anxious how you are to speak or what you are to say, for (K)what you are to say will be given to you in that hour. 20 (L)For it is not you who speak, but (M)the Spirit of your Father speaking through you. 21 (N)Brother will deliver brother over to death, and the father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death, 22 (O)and you will be hated by all for my name's sake. (P)But the one who endures to the end will be saved.

Psalm 112

The Righteous Will Never Be Moved

112 [a] (A)Praise the Lord!
(B)Blessed is the man who fears the Lord,
    who (C)greatly delights in his commandments!
His (D)offspring will be mighty in the land;
    (E)the generation of the upright will be blessed.
(F)Wealth and riches are in his house,
    and his (G)righteousness endures forever.
Light dawns in the darkness (H)for the upright;
    he is gracious, merciful, and (I)righteous.
It is well with the man who (J)deals generously and lends;
    who conducts his affairs with justice.
For the righteous will (K)never be moved;
    (L)he will be remembered forever.
He is not (M)afraid of bad news;
    his (N)heart is firm, (O)trusting in the Lord.
His heart is steady;[b] he will not be afraid,
    until he looks in triumph on his adversaries.
He has (P)distributed freely; he has given to the poor;
    his righteousness endures forever;
    his (Q)horn is exalted in honor.
10 The wicked man sees it and is angry;
    he (R)gnashes his teeth and (S)melts away;
    (T)the desire of the wicked will perish!

Psalm 125

The Lord Surrounds His People

A Song of (A)Ascents.

125 Those who (B)trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion,
    which (C)cannot be moved, but abides forever.
As the mountains surround Jerusalem,
    so (D)the Lord surrounds his people,
    from this time forth and forevermore.
For (E)the scepter of wickedness shall not (F)rest
    on (G)the land allotted to the righteous,
lest the righteous (H)stretch out
    their hands to do wrong.
(I)Do good, O Lord, to those who are good,
    and to those who are (J)upright in their hearts!
But those who (K)turn aside to their (L)crooked ways
    the Lord will lead away with (M)evildoers!
    (N)Peace be upon Israel!

Hebrews 12:12-24

12 Therefore (A)lift your drooping hands and strengthen your weak knees, 13 and (B)make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be put out of joint (C)but rather be healed. 14 (D)Strive for peace with everyone, and for the (E)holiness (F)without which no one will see the Lord. 15 See to it that no one (G)fails to obtain the grace of God; that no (H)“root of bitterness” springs up and causes trouble, and by it many become defiled; 16 that no one is (I)sexually immoral or unholy like Esau, who sold his birthright for a single meal. 17 For you know that (J)afterward, when he desired to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no chance to repent, though he sought it with tears.

A Kingdom That Cannot Be Shaken

18 For you have not come to (K)what may be touched, a blazing fire and darkness and gloom and a tempest 19 and (L)the sound of a trumpet and a voice whose words (M)made the hearers beg that no further messages be spoken to them. 20 For they could not endure the order that was given, (N)“If even a beast touches the mountain, it shall be stoned.” 21 Indeed, (O)so terrifying was the sight that Moses said, “I tremble with fear.” 22 But you have come to (P)Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, (Q)the heavenly Jerusalem, and to (R)innumerable angels in festal gathering, 23 and to (S)the assembly[a] of the firstborn who are (T)enrolled in heaven, and to (U)God, the judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, 24 and to Jesus, (V)the mediator of a new covenant, and to (W)the sprinkled blood (X)that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.
