The BasisBijbel (literally, “Basic Bible”) is a Bible in simple Dutch, in today’s language. The BasisBijbel is based on the classic Dutch Bible translation, the “Statenvertaling”. The purpose of the BasisBijbel is to make the text intelligible to as many people as possible. To accomplish this, typical Bible words have been replaced with words from everyday Dutch, which makes the text very accessible to people who are not familiar with the Bible.
Words and sentences have been kept short, which also makes this Bible suitable for those who struggle with reading. And in some cases, words have been added in [square] brackets to clarify the text.

De BasisBijbel is een Bijbel in eenvoudig Nederlands, in de taal van nu. De BasisBijbel is gebaseerd op de Statenvertaling. Doel is de Bijbel voor zo veel mogelijk mensen begrijpelijk te maken. Daarom zijn typische bijbelwoorden vervangen door woorden uit het dagelijks Nederlands, zodat de tekst heel toegankelijk is voor mensen die niet thuis zijn in de Bijbel.
Woorden en zinnen zijn kort gehouden, waardoor deze Bijbel ook geschikt is voor mensen die moeite hebben met lezen. Hier en daar zijn tussen [vierkante] haken woorden toegevoegd die de tekst duidelijker maken.
