¹³ Let us ^[a](A)behave properly as in the day, ^(B)not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and sensuality, not in strife and jealousy.

¹⁰ Now ^(A)I exhort you, ^(B)brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all ^[a]agree and that there be no ^[b](C)divisions among you, but that you be ^[c]made complete in ^(D)the same mind and in the same judgment. ¹¹ For I have been informed concerning you, my brethren, by Chloe’s people, that there are quarrels among you. ¹² Now I mean this, that ^(E)each one of you is saying, “I am of Paul,” and “I of ^(F)Apollos,” and “I of ^(G)Cephas,” and “I of Christ.” ^13 [d]Has Christ been divided? Paul was not crucified for you, was he? Or were you ^(H)baptized ^[e]in the name of Paul? ^14 [f]I thank God that I ^(I)baptized none of you except ^(J)Crispus and ^(K)Gaius, ¹⁵ so that no one would say you were baptized ^[g]in my name. ¹⁶ Now I did baptize also the ^(L)household of Stephanas; beyond that, I do not know whether I baptized any other. ^17 (M)For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, ^(N)not in ^[h]cleverness of speech, so that the cross of Christ would not be made void.

The Wisdom of God

¹⁸ For the word of the cross is ^(O)foolishness to ^(P)those who ^[i]are perishing, but to us who ^[j]are being saved it is ^(Q)the power of God. ¹⁹ For it is written,

^20 (S)Where is the wise man? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of ^(T)this age? Has not God ^(U)made foolish the wisdom of ^(V)the world? ²¹ For since in the wisdom of God ^(W)the world through its wisdom did not come to know God, ^(X)God was well-pleased through the ^(Y)foolishness of the ^[k]message preached to ^(Z)save those who believe. ²² For indeed ^(AA)Jews ask for ^[l]signs and Greeks search for wisdom; ²³ but we preach ^[m](AB)Christ crucified, ^(AC)to Jews a stumbling block and to Gentiles ^(AD)foolishness, ²⁴ but to those who are ^(AE)the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ ^(AF)the power of God and ^(AG)the wisdom of God. ²⁵ Because the ^(AH)foolishness of God is wiser than men, and ^(AI)the weakness of God is stronger than men.

²⁶ For ^[n]consider your ^(AJ)calling, brethren, that there were ^(AK)not many wise according to ^[o]the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble; ²⁷ but ^(AL)God has chosen the foolish things of ^(AM)the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of ^(AN)the world to shame the things which are strong, ²⁸ and the base things of ^(AO)the world and the despised God has chosen, ^(AP)the things that are not, so that He may ^(AQ)nullify the things that are, ²⁹ so that ^(AR)no ^[p]man may boast before God. ³⁰ But ^[q]by His doing you are in ^(AS)Christ Jesus, who became to us ^(AT)wisdom from God, ^[r]and ^(AU)righteousness and ^(AV)sanctification, and ^(AW)redemption, ³¹ so that, just as it is written, “^(AX)Let him who boasts, boast in the Lord.”

¹⁸ For, in the first place, when you come together ^[a]as a church, I hear that ^[b](A)divisions exist among you; and in part I believe it.
