Psalm 2

The Reign of the Lords Anointed.

Why are (A)the [a]nations restless
And the peoples (B)plotting in vain?
The (C)kings of the earth take their stand
And the rulers conspire together
(D)Against the Lord and against His [b](E)Anointed, saying,
“Let’s (F)tear their shackles apart
And throw their ropes away from us!”

He who [c]sits in the heavens (G)laughs,
The Lord (H)scoffs at them.
Then He will speak to them in His (I)anger
And (J)terrify them in His fury, saying,
“But as for Me, I have installed (K)My King
Upon Zion, (L)My holy mountain.”

“I will announce the [d]decree of the Lord:
He said to Me, ‘You are (M)My Son,
Today I have fathered You.
Ask it of Me, and (N)I will certainly give (O)the [e]nations as Your inheritance,
And the (P)ends of the earth as Your possession.
You shall [f](Q)break them with a [g]rod of iron,
You shall (R)shatter them like [h]earthenware.’”

10 Now then, you kings, (S)use insight;
Let yourselves be instructed, you [i]judges of the earth.
11 Serve the Lord with [j](T)reverence
And rejoice with (U)trembling.
12 [k]Kiss (V)the Son, that He not be angry and you perish on the way,
For (W)His wrath may be kindled quickly.
How blessed are all who (X)take refuge in Him!

1 Kings 21:20-29

20 Then Ahab said to Elijah, “(A)Have you found me, enemy of mine?” And he [a]answered, “I have found you, (B)because you have given yourself over to do evil in the sight of the Lord. 21 Behold, I am bringing disaster upon you, and I (C)will utterly sweep you away, and will eliminate from Ahab every male, both [b]bond and free in Israel; 22 and (D)I will make your house (E)like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah, because of the provocation with which you have provoked Me to anger, and because you (F)have misled Israel into sin. 23 The Lord has also spoken of Jezebel, saying, ‘(G)The dogs will eat Jezebel in the [c]territory of Jezreel.’ 24 (H)The one belonging to Ahab, who dies in the city, the dogs will eat; and the one who dies in the field, the birds of the sky will eat.”

25 (I)There certainly was no one like Ahab who gave himself over to do evil in the sight of the Lord, [d]because Jezebel his wife incited him. 26 (J)He also acted very despicably in following idols, (K)conforming to everything that the Amorites had done, whom the Lord drove out from the sons of Israel.

27 Yet it came about, when Ahab heard these words, that (L)he tore his clothes and put [e]on sackcloth and fasted, and he lay in sackcloth and went about despondently. 28 Then the word of the Lord came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying, 29 “Do you see how Ahab has humbled himself before Me? Because he has humbled himself before Me, I will not bring the disaster in his days; I will bring the disaster upon his house (M)in his son’s days.”

Mark 9:9-13

(A)As they were coming down from the mountain, He (B)gave them orders not to relate to anyone what they had seen, [a]until the Son of Man rose from the dead. 10 They [b]seized upon [c]that statement, discussing with one another [d]what rising from the dead meant. 11 And they asked Him, saying, “Why is it that the scribes say that (C)Elijah must come first?” 12 And He said to them, “Elijah does come first and he restores all things. And yet how is it written of (D)the Son of Man that (E)He will suffer many things and be treated with contempt? 13 But I say to you that Elijah has [e]indeed come, and they did to him whatever they wanted, just as it is written of him.”
