The Law of Burnt Offerings

1 Then ^(A)the Lord called to Moses and spoke to him from the tent of meeting, saying, ² “Speak to the sons of Israel and say to them, ‘When any man of you brings an ^[a](B)offering to the Lord, you shall bring your ^[b]offering of animals from ^(C)the herd or the flock. ³ If his offering is a ^(D)burnt offering from the herd, he shall offer it, a male ^(E)without defect; he shall offer it ^(F)at the doorway of the tent of meeting, that he may be accepted before the Lord. ^4 (G)He shall lay his hand on the head of the burnt offering, that it may be accepted for him to make ^(H)atonement on his behalf. ^5 (I)He shall slay the ^[c]young bull before the Lord; and Aaron’s sons the priests shall offer up ^(J)the blood and ^(K)sprinkle the blood around on the altar that is at the doorway of the tent of meeting. ^6 (L)He shall then skin the burnt offering and cut it into its pieces. ^7 (M)The sons of Aaron the priest shall put fire on the altar and arrange wood on the fire. ⁸ Then Aaron’s sons the priests shall arrange the pieces, the head and the ^(N)suet over the wood which is on the fire that is on the altar. ⁹ Its ^(O)entrails, however, and its legs he shall wash with water. And ^(P)the priest shall offer up in smoke all of it on the altar for a burnt offering, an offering by fire of ^(Q)a soothing aroma to the Lord.

¹⁰ ‘But if his offering is from the flock, of the sheep or of the goats, for a burnt offering, he shall offer it a ^(R)male without defect. ^11 (S)He shall slay it on the side of the altar northward before the Lord, and Aaron’s sons the priests shall sprinkle its blood around on the altar. ¹² He shall then cut it into its pieces with its head and its ^(T)suet, and the priest shall arrange them on the wood which is on the fire that is on the altar. ¹³ The entrails, however, and the legs he shall wash with water. And ^(U)the priest shall offer all of it, and offer it up in smoke on the altar; it is a burnt offering, an offering by fire of a soothing aroma to the Lord.

¹⁴ ‘But if his offering to the Lord is a burnt offering of birds, then he shall bring his offering from the ^(V)turtledoves or from young pigeons. ¹⁵ The priest shall bring it to the altar, and wring off its head and offer it up in smoke on the altar; and its blood is to be drained out ^(W)on the side of the altar. ¹⁶ He shall also take away its crop with its feathers and cast it beside the altar eastward, to the place of the ^[d](X)ashes. ¹⁷ Then he shall tear it by its wings, but ^(Y)shall not sever it. And the priest shall offer it up in smoke on the altar on the wood which is on the fire; ^(Z)it is a burnt offering, an offering by fire of a soothing aroma to the Lord.

The Law of Grain Offerings

2 ‘Now when anyone presents a ^(AA)grain offering as an offering to the Lord, his offering shall be of fine flour, and he shall pour oil on it and put frankincense on it. ² He shall then bring it to Aaron’s sons the priests; and shall take from it ^(AB)his handful of its fine flour and of its oil with all of its frankincense. And the priest shall offer it up in smoke as its ^(AC)memorial portion on the altar, an offering by fire of a soothing aroma to the Lord. ^3 (AD)The remainder of the grain offering belongs to ^(AE)Aaron and his sons: a thing most holy, of the offerings to the Lord by fire.

⁴ ‘Now when you bring an offering of a grain offering baked in an oven, it shall be ^(AF)unleavened cakes of fine flour mixed with oil, or unleavened wafers ^[e]spread with oil. ⁵ If your offering is a grain offering made ^(AG)on the griddle, it shall be of fine flour, unleavened, mixed with oil; ⁶ you shall break it into bits and pour oil on it; it is a grain offering. ⁷ Now if your offering is a grain offering made ^(AH)in a ^[f]pan, it shall be made of fine flour with oil. ⁸ When you bring in the grain offering which is made of these things to the Lord, it shall be presented to the priest and he shall bring it to the altar. ⁹ The priest then shall take up from the grain offering ^(AI)its memorial portion, and shall offer it up in smoke on the altar as an offering by fire of a soothing aroma to the Lord. ^10 (AJ)The remainder of the grain offering belongs to Aaron and his sons: a thing most holy of the offerings to the Lord by fire.

¹¹ ‘^(AK)No grain offering, which you bring to the Lord, shall be made with leaven, for you shall not offer ^[g]up in smoke any leaven or any honey as an ^(AL)offering by fire to the Lord. ^12 (AM)As an offering of first fruits you shall bring them to the Lord, but they shall not ascend for a soothing aroma on the altar. ¹³ Every grain offering of yours, moreover, you shall season with salt, so that ^(AN)the salt of the covenant of your God shall not be lacking from your grain offering; with all your offerings you shall offer salt.

¹⁴ ‘Also if you bring a grain offering of early ripened things to the Lord, you shall bring ^(AO)fresh heads of grain roasted in the fire, grits of new growth, for the grain offering of your early ripened things. ¹⁵ You shall then put oil on it and lay incense on it; it is a grain offering. ¹⁶ The priest shall offer up in smoke ^(AP)its memorial portion, part of its grits and its oil with all its incense as an offering by fire to the Lord.

The Law of Peace Offerings

3 ‘Now if his offering is a ^(AQ)sacrifice of peace offerings, if he is going to offer out of the herd, whether male or female, he shall offer it ^(AR)without defect before the Lord. ^2 (AS)He shall lay his hand on the head of his offering and ^(AT)slay it at the doorway of the tent of meeting, and Aaron’s sons the priests shall sprinkle the blood around on the altar. ³ From the sacrifice of the peace offerings he shall present an offering by fire to the Lord, the fat that covers the entrails and all the fat that is on the entrails, ⁴ and the two kidneys with the fat that is on them, which is on the loins, and the ^[h]lobe of the liver, which he shall remove with the kidneys. ⁵ Then ^(AU)Aaron’s sons shall offer it up in smoke on the altar ^(AV)on the burnt offering, which is on the wood that is on the fire; ^(AW)it is an offering by fire of a soothing aroma to the Lord. ⁶ But if his offering for a sacrifice of peace offerings to the Lord is from the flock, he shall offer it, male or female, ^(AX)without defect. ⁷ If he is going to offer ^(AY)a lamb for his offering, then he shall offer it ^(AZ)before the Lord, ⁸ and ^(BA)he shall lay his hand on the head of his offering and ^(BB)slay it before the tent of meeting, and Aaron’s sons shall ^(BC)sprinkle its blood around on the altar. ⁹ From the ^(BD)sacrifice of peace offerings he shall bring as an offering by fire to the Lord, its fat, ^[i]the entire fat tail which he shall remove close to the backbone, and the fat that covers the entrails and all the fat that is on the entrails, ¹⁰ and the two kidneys with the fat that is on them, which is on the loins, and the ^[j]lobe of the liver, which he shall remove ^(BE)with the kidneys. ¹¹ Then the priest shall offer it up in smoke ^(BF)on the altar as ^(BG)food, an offering by fire to the Lord.

¹² ‘Moreover, if his offering is ^(BH)a goat, then he shall offer it before the Lord, ¹³ and he shall lay his hand on its head and slay it before the tent of meeting, and the sons of Aaron shall sprinkle its blood around on the altar. ¹⁴ From it he shall present his offering as an offering by fire to the Lord, the fat that covers the entrails and all the fat that is on the entrails, ¹⁵ and the two kidneys with the fat that is on them, which is on the loins, and the ^[k]lobe of the liver, which he shall remove ^(BI)with the kidneys. ¹⁶ The priest shall offer them up in smoke on the altar as food, an offering by fire for a soothing aroma; ^(BJ)all fat is the Lord’s. ¹⁷ It is a ^(BK)perpetual statute throughout your generations in all your dwellings: you shall not eat any fat ^(BL)or any blood.’”

The Law of Sin Offerings

4 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, ² “Speak to the sons of Israel, saying, ‘If a person sins ^(BM)unintentionally in any of the ^[l]things which the Lord has ^(BN)commanded not to be done, and commits any of them, ^3 (BO)if the anointed priest sins so as to bring guilt on the people, then let him offer to the Lord a ^[m]bull without defect as a sin offering for the sin he has ^[n]committed. ⁴ He shall bring the bull to the doorway of the tent of meeting before the Lord, and ^(BP)he shall lay his hand on the head of the bull and slay the bull before the Lord. ⁵ Then the ^(BQ)anointed priest is to take some of the blood of the bull and bring it to the tent of meeting, ⁶ and the priest shall dip his finger in the blood and sprinkle some of the blood seven times before the Lord, in front of ^(BR)the veil of the sanctuary. ⁷ The priest shall also put some of the blood on the horns of ^(BS)the altar of fragrant incense which is before the Lord in the tent of meeting; and all the blood of the bull he shall pour out at the base of the altar of burnt offering which is at the doorway of the tent of meeting. ^8 (BT)He shall remove from it all the fat of the bull of the sin offering: the fat that covers the entrails, and all the fat which is on the entrails, ⁹ and the two kidneys with the fat that is on them, which is on the loins, and the ^[o]lobe of the liver, which he shall remove ^(BU)with the kidneys ¹⁰ (just as it is removed from the ox of the sacrifice of peace offerings), and the priest is to offer them up in smoke on the altar of burnt offering. ¹¹ But ^(BV)the hide of the bull and all its flesh with its head and its legs and its entrails and its refuse, ^12 [p]that is, all the rest of the bull, he is to bring out to ^(BW)a clean place outside the camp where the ^[q]ashes are poured out, and burn it on wood with fire; where the ^[r]ashes are poured out it shall be burned.

¹³ ‘^(BX)Now if the whole congregation of Israel commits error and the matter ^[s]escapes the notice of the assembly, and they commit any of the ^[t]things which the Lord has commanded not to be done, and they become guilty; ^14 (BY)when the sin ^[u]which they have ^[v]committed becomes known, then the assembly shall offer ^(BZ)a ^[w]bull of the herd for a sin offering and bring it before the tent of meeting. ¹⁵ Then ^(CA)the elders of the congregation shall lay their hands on the head of the bull before the Lord, and the bull shall be slain ^(CB)before the Lord. ¹⁶ Then the anointed priest is to bring some of the blood of the bull to the tent of meeting; ¹⁷ and ^(CC)the priest shall dip his finger in the blood and sprinkle it seven times before the Lord, in front of the veil. ¹⁸ He shall put some of the blood on the horns of ^(CD)the altar which is before the Lord ^[x]in the tent of meeting; and all the blood he shall pour out at the base of the altar of burnt offering which is at the doorway of the tent of meeting. ^19 (CE)He shall remove all its fat from it and offer it up in smoke on the altar. ²⁰ He shall also do with the bull just as he did with ^(CF)the bull of the sin offering; thus he shall do with it. So ^(CG)the priest shall make atonement for them, and they will be forgiven. ²¹ Then he is to bring out the bull to a place outside the camp and burn it as he burned the first bull; it is ^(CH)the sin offering for the assembly.

²² ‘When ^(CI)a leader ^(CJ)sins and unintentionally does any one of all the ^[y]things which the Lord his God has commanded not to be done, and he becomes guilty, ^23 [z](CK)if his sin ^[aa]which he has committed is made known to him, he shall bring for his offering a ^[ab](CL)goat, ^(CM)a male without defect. ²⁴ He shall lay his hand on the head of the male goat and slay it in the place where ^[ac]they slay the burnt offering before the Lord; it is a sin offering. ²⁵ Then the priest is to take some of the blood of the sin offering with his finger and put it on ^(CN)the horns of the altar of burnt offering; and the rest of its blood he shall pour out at the base of the altar of burnt offering. ^26 (CO)All its fat he shall offer up in smoke on the altar as in the case of the fat of the sacrifice of peace offerings. Thus ^(CP)the priest shall make atonement for him in regard to his sin, and he will be forgiven.

²⁷ ‘Now if ^[ad]anyone of ^[ae]the common people sins ^(CQ)unintentionally in doing any of the ^[af]things which the Lord has commanded not to be done, and becomes guilty, ^28 [ag](CR)if his sin which he has ^[ah]committed is made known to him, then he shall bring for his offering a ^[ai](CS)goat, a ^(CT)female without defect, for his sin which he has ^[aj]committed. ^29 (CU)He shall lay his hand on the head of the sin offering and ^(CV)slay the sin offering at the place of the burnt offering. ³⁰ The priest shall take some of its blood with his finger and put it on the horns of ^(CW)the altar of burnt offering; and ^(CX)all the rest of its blood he shall pour out at the base of the altar. ^31 (CY)Then he shall remove all its fat, just as the fat was removed from the sacrifice of peace offerings; and the priest shall offer it up in smoke on the altar for ^(CZ)a soothing aroma to the Lord. Thus the priest shall make atonement for him, ^[ak]and he will be forgiven.

³² ‘But if he brings ^(DA)a lamb as his offering for a sin offering, he shall bring it, a female without defect. ^33 (DB)He shall lay his hand on the head of the sin offering and slay it for a sin offering ^(DC)in the place where ^[al]they slay the burnt offering. ³⁴ The priest is to take some of the blood of the sin offering with his finger and put it on the horns of ^(DD)the altar of burnt offering, and ^(DE)all the rest of its blood he shall pour out at the base of the altar. ³⁵ Then he shall remove ^(DF)all its fat, just as the fat of the lamb is removed from the sacrifice of the peace offerings, and the priest shall offer them up in smoke on the altar, on the offerings by fire to the Lord. Thus ^(DG)the priest shall make atonement for him in regard to his sin which he has ^[am]committed, and he will be forgiven.

The Law of Guilt Offerings

5 ‘Now if a person sins after he hears a ^[an]public ^(DH)adjuration to testify when he is a witness, whether he has seen or otherwise known, if he does not tell it, then he will bear his ^[ao]guilt. ² Or if a person touches ^(DI)any unclean thing, whether a carcass of an unclean beast or the carcass of unclean cattle or a carcass of unclean swarming things, though it is hidden from him and he is unclean, then he will be guilty. ³ Or if he touches human uncleanness, of whatever sort his uncleanness may be with which he becomes unclean, and it is hidden from him, and then he comes to know it, he will be guilty. ⁴ Or if a person ^(DJ)swears thoughtlessly with his lips to do evil or to do good, in whatever matter a man may speak thoughtlessly with an oath, and it is hidden from him, and then he comes to know it, he will be guilty in one of these. ⁵ So it shall be when he becomes guilty in one of these, that he shall ^(DK)confess that in which he has sinned. ⁶ He shall also bring his guilt offering to the Lord for his sin which he has ^[ap]committed, ^(DL)a female from the flock, a lamb or a ^[aq]goat as a sin offering. So the priest shall make atonement on his behalf for his sin.

⁷ ‘But if ^[ar]he cannot afford a lamb, then he shall bring to the Lord his guilt offering for that in which he has sinned, two turtledoves or two young pigeons, ^(DM)one for a sin offering and the other for a burnt offering. ⁸ He shall bring them to the priest, who shall offer first that which is for the sin offering and shall nip its head at the front of its neck, but he ^(DN)shall not sever it. ⁹ He shall also sprinkle some of the blood of the sin offering ^(DO)on the side of the altar, while the rest of the blood shall be drained out ^(DP)at the base of the altar: it is a sin offering. ¹⁰ The second he shall then prepare as a burnt offering ^(DQ)according to the ordinance. ^(DR)So the priest shall make atonement on his behalf for his sin which he has ^[as]committed, and it will be forgiven him.

¹¹ ‘But ^(DS)if his ^[at]means are insufficient for two turtledoves or two young pigeons, then for his offering for that which he has sinned, he shall bring the tenth of an ^[au]ephah of fine flour for a sin offering; ^(DT)he shall not put oil on it or place incense on it, for it is a sin offering. ¹² He shall bring it to the priest, and the priest shall take his handful of it as its memorial portion and offer it up in smoke on the altar, ^[av]with the offerings of the Lord by fire: it is a sin offering. ¹³ So the priest shall make atonement for him concerning his sin which he has ^[aw]committed from ^(DU)one of these, and it will be forgiven him; then ^(DV)the rest shall become the priest’s, like the grain offering.’”

¹⁴ Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, ¹⁵ “^(DW)If a person acts unfaithfully and sins ^(DX)unintentionally against the Lord’s holy things, then he shall bring his ^(DY)guilt offering to the Lord: ^(DZ)a ram without defect from the flock, according to your valuation in silver by shekels, in terms of the ^(EA)shekel of the sanctuary, for a guilt offering. ^16 (EB)He shall make restitution for that which he has sinned against the holy thing, and shall add to it a fifth part of it and give it to the priest. ^(EC)The priest shall then make atonement for him with the ram of the guilt offering, and it will be forgiven him.

¹⁷ “Now if a person sins and does any of the things ^[ax]which the Lord has commanded not to be done, ^(ED)though he was unaware, still he is guilty and shall bear his punishment. ¹⁸ He is then to bring to the priest ^(EE)a ram without defect from the flock, according to your valuation, for a guilt offering. So the priest shall make atonement for him concerning his error in which he sinned ^(EF)unintentionally and did not know it, and it will be forgiven him. ¹⁹ It is a guilt offering; he was certainly guilty before the Lord.”
